SAY WHAT?!? I cannot believe 2017 has come to a close and we’re off to a bigger and better year! One of the things I love doing is reflecting on the past year. It’s so fun to see all the things I’ve done and places I’ve been. But the most important reason I love looking back is seeing what I’ve learned and how I’ve grown.
This year was the craziest year I have gone through, meaning one that made me grow the most. I was so fortunate to have so many wonderful people enter my life this year, even if some had to go. The trials and tribulations that occured in 2017 allowed me to see who my true friends are and for that I’m eternally grateful.
But don’t think that 2017 was overall terrible–because that’s so not the case! I was blessed with some awesome experiences with fantastic people. And even if some things felt unbearable in the moment, I wouldn’t be the person I am today without them 🙂 Soooo without further ado, let’s reminisce!
Things that happened:
Blogging brought the best of bestest friends
It’s crazy thinking about the fact that this little blog has allowed me to make friends with some pretty stinkin’ awesome friends. I started a mastermind with my best blogging friends, Chelsie, Erica, and Taylor. (PS- Be sure to click through to their blogs because they are bomb dot com!) And I got to visit 2 of them and have a couple trips in the works for this year!!
I got to visit Erica, from Coming up Roses in Philadelphia, PA. We got massages together which was ah-mazing!!
Still cannot believe that I was only introduced to @kneippusa by my bff @ericaligenza a couple weeks ago because now I absolutely cannot live without my Beautiful Shape Body Oil 😍 I’m also a huge advocate for companies that work hard to give back, and you can easily help give back too!! All ya peeps gotta do is either purchase the Kneipp Soft in Seconds Hand Cream, where a portion of the proceeds go to @actionagainsthunger or post a pic with either a real flower crown or the virtual one on Snapchat and hashtag #KneippGrows and they’ll donate for you spreading the word 💖#flowercrown #giveback
I visited Taylor from Blonde and Ambitious in St. Louis, Missouri. I’m just gonna send y’all over to my St. Louis weekend guide that I put together after the bomb Labor Day weekend I had with T last year. Guys, you NEED to try out Go Ape if you live near one–so so fun!
Traveling and relationships are two investments I’ll never regret. ✈️❤ I had so much fun in St Louis with @blondeandambitiousblog that I created a weekend travel guide filled with what we did! Sooo if you’re in the Midwest, and wanna check out the city ya might wanna check it out! It also has a sweet discount for @goapeusa!! I also chat about @thecandlefusionstudio, @missiontacojoint, @jenisicecreams, and more!! Where have you traveled to this year that you don’t regret one bit?? #travelpic #travelbug #stlouis
And I made a “real life” best friend that ironically lives right down the street from me! It’s seriously crazy how Katie came into my life through blogging but now we hang out alllll the time 🙂
And while she doesn’t live down the street, 2 hours is def not far to visit Victoria. And I rang in the new year with her, so I know this year is gonna be one to remember!
I graduated with a degree in Biomedical Engineering and started a full time job
And after 5 years of college I finally graduated last spring with a major in Biomedical Engineering! So I am currently working at a startup that’s about to make waves in the medical device industry! I’m so fortunate to be involved in a company that’s in the early stages so I get a good feel for what it takes to bring a product to market.
I became a single woman
After about a 4 year-long relationship, I became a single woman. Looking back, it feels like I’ve been single for so much longer. Naturally, I took the breakup pretty hard when it happened because in the moment it felt like it was out of the blue. However, it took just about a week to realize I was way better off and deserve to be treated 1000x better. And in that moment, I understood that the breakup needed to happen because if I was being honest with myself, the last year of the relationship was such a rocky road.
Since entering the single life, I’ve been doing so many things for self-improvement because I realized that I put all my identity into that relationship and had nothing for myself. It wasn’t a good feeling to be asked “what do you like to do in your free time” and only being able to come up with stuff I did with my ex, for my ex. So now that I only have myself to answer to, I have been putting time into what really fuels me. I’m so excited to continue this in 2018 too!
And in light of becoming single, I found myself on dating apps like Bumble and Tinder only to see that there are plenty of other guys out there. So what did I do? I started playing around with dating app pickup lines and Taylor Swift pickup lines to see how guys reacted. The result is this blog post on dating app pickup lines and how guys are failing at dating apps!
I got a tattoo!
Can’t believe I was about to forget about this one! I’m going to create a whole blog post about the meaning and everything, but I am super super happy with it and am so glad I did this for myself. And now that I got one, I kinda want to get some more… sorry gramps 😉 (PS- If you have no idea who my gramps is, you REALLY need to be following me on snapchat because we post the FUNNIEST stories together. He is absolutely adorable.)
Things I loved:
Foundation: Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-hour foundation
Eyeshadow: Colourpop Super-Shock eyeshadow. This stuff stays on all day for me- even without eyeshadow primer!
Hair product: Dry Bar Triple Sec. OMG y’all. This spray was such a game-changer for my 2017! Not only does it add texture, but it also soaks up any excess oil in your hair.
Dry Shampoo: Sexy Hair H2No Dry Shampoo. Yeah, I know dry shampoo is a hair product, but I use it so religiously and have tried so many that it definitely needed its own category!
Hot tool: NuMe Octo wand. I’ve had this product since before 2017, but since my hair really grew last year, I curled it so much more. I love this wand because there are different size barrels you can use for any look you want!
Hair color: Brunette. So I dyed my hair in August to a darker brunette, rather than adding highlights to my hair. I wanted to switch it up for the coming fall, but not I’m pretty obsessed with it that I just may keep it! Thoughts?!
Ripped jeans- I held off on buying new ripped jeans for so long because I thought they were impractical since I can’t wear them to work. However, I bought these high-waisted skinny jeans and these Tomgirl jeans from American Eagle and I’m so in love. Low-key pissed at myself for waiting so long.
Lucky Brand booties- I found my first pair of my Lucky Brand booties at Marshall’s for a steal in early fall and I was instantly hooked. They are so so comfy and I wear them so much more than my riding boots. So naturally on Black Friday, I had to buy a black pair 🙂
Book: You Are a Badass by Jen Sincero – I started this book in the summer when I was going through a quarter life crisis and didn’t know exactly where my life was heading after graduation. This book really clicked with me instantly and I loved that Jen uses a no bullsh*t tone when talking about you trying to reach your goals. This book is a little cliche, however, I love love love cheesy so I was a big fan.
Song: Welp. Because I am so indecisive, I’m just gonna make a Spotify Playlist of all the songs I loved 🙂
App- Snapchat. 2017 I really got back into snapchat. With the instagram algorithm making the platform not as fun as it used to be, I found myself spending way more time on snap. I think the platform is so much more personal and I love showing everyone a behind the scenes side of me and not having it be super curated.
Show– Gossip Girl. I know, I know this isn’t a new show in the slightest, but when it originally aired I think I only got to season 2 or 3. Over the summer, I started the series over again on Netflix and was instantly hooked. Soooo I kept watching it whenever I had a chance and finished it up in the fall.
FabFitFun subscription boxes– This will ALWAYS be one of my favorites simply because they are just so fun. I get the yearly subscription, so I get to choose some of my items prior to shipment, which I love a lot. It really ensures that I will get everything I want and will actually use! If you want to try out the FabFitFun subscription service, you can use my link to get $10 off your first box– making it only $40 for a box worth over $200 worth of product!
