Every once in a while I will feel my body start to feel sluggish due to a wide variety of aspects in my life. Whenever I am feeling this way, I always love to rev my body back up with easy detox drinks. I think they can be so good for your entire body (and your mind). Because I am on the go a lot, sometimes I choose food based on convenience and not by healthiness. Don’t get me wrong, there are so many processed foods that I avoid completely. But there are some days when I go overboard on the carbs, which never makes my body alert or awake. When this happens, I know it’s time to cleanse my body.
I used to think of horrible-tasting green-tinted drinks when someone would talk about a “detox” drink. But it doesn’t have to be that way! I have been loving some easy detox drinks lately and I want to share them with you! I also love that some of these can be done on the daily. You don’t always need to be on a strict “3 day diet” to help your body cleanse itself.
This first one is the most simple recipe you can make. All you need to do is add freshly squeezed lemon to your glass of water. Because lemons are acidic (similar to your digestive tract) it aids your body in digestion by helping your body absorb the good nutrients in your food more slowly. This slow process helps you absorb more nutrients from your food.
Cucumber, Mint, and Lemon water
This summer we had so many cucumbers and mint that we didn’t know what to do with them. I then started creating a detox drink with them and lemon on my water. Mint is my favorite and is strong enough to balance out the cucumber taste.
Apple Cider Vinegar
Apple cider vinegar is another great acidic way to detox your body. I found this recipe on Dr. Axe and thought I would give it a try! Since I was low on time, I altered the recipe a little. It is recommended that you dilute apple cider vinegar with 6-8 oz of water because it is so acidic. If taken as a straight shot, over time it could damage your tooth enamel and/or esophagus. I take this drink in the morning before any food so all the nutrients are absorbed into my system first.
What you need:
8 oz water
2 tsp Organic Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV)
1 tablespoon Honey (I used local, organic honey)
Cinnamon to taste
What to do:
- Bring water to boil
- Stir in ACV, honey, and cinnamon
- Depending on if you want to drink it hot or cold, add some ice cubes (which is what I did)
I was pretty nervous to try this because I didn’t know if it would taste like straight vinegar or not. But it actually tasted pretty decent, like a diluted apple cider!
Okay, okay before you cringe about my advocating downing charcoal, hear me out. Charcoal is actually a natural way to detoxify your body. When people have alcohol poisoning, they are often given activated charcoal to help absorb the toxins to release from their body. This is pretty much the same when you drink activated charcoal: it draws in toxins through its small pores and helps excrete them from your body. Despite the really dark drink, it doesn’t taste like anything but water with a little chalky texture.
There are several detox diets that discuss drinking a certain amount of charcoal within a couple days, but I don’t follow that. Every other morning I will mix a teaspoon of activated charcoal powder with a large cup of water. There are also activated charcoal capsules that you can also take for the same result. It’s recommended to take about 20 to 90 minutes before food so it can help aid digestion. In the morning I usually juice for breakfast and have been adding the charcoal right in the blender. This makes getting my charcoal and nutrients super convenient in one drink!
Tip: If you decide you want to test out activated charcoal make sure you drink a minimum of 10 glasses of water a day. Because it is working to draw out toxins, you are more prone to dehydration and constipation (not fun…)Detoxing doesn't have to taste bad!! These 4 drink recipes are BOMB Click To Tweet
So there you have it! These are the 4 easy detox drinks that I incorporate into my diet regularly! I hope you guys try one two and let me know what you think (:
