This year, my boyfriend and I have made a pact to strive to eat healthier, which means we are cutting back on eating out. Growing up, we rarely ate out, but since starting college my eating habits have changed a little due to my hectic schedule. After my freshman year, I have been working hard to get rid of that Freshman 15 and finding new, easy ways to stay healthy.
I usually eat salads for lunch about 4 or 5 days a week, because I get so busy with studying that I don’t want to spend an hour prepping a lunch when I could be doing better things. Because I have been putting more healthy foods into my body, I have noticed such an improvement in my overall energy and mood. It’s crazy how much your body rewards you for fueling yourself the right way!
One of my favorite go-to meals is always a salad, especially a cranberry and goat cheese salad. Like anyone, my sweet tooth gets a little out of control sometimes, which is why I’m a huge fan of adding dried cranberries (bonus: they are high in fiber too!). And I could seriously eat a whole package of goat cheese, so portioning it on a salad helps keep me in check (;
I love that there are so many options to make salads taste just the way you want them to (because we all have random cravings throughout the day…right?!). After I am done grocery shopping at Walmart, I try to prep some veggies so I can effortlessly add them to a salad without having to prep too much. When I’m running behind in the morning, I feel so relieved when it only takes about 5 minutes to throw everything in a bowl and hit the road to go to school.
To add more protein to my meal, I almost always add Tyson® Grilled & Ready chicken to my salads. I love that the chicken is already pre-cooked, so all I have to do is prepare it via microwave or stove to heat it up, which is super convenient. By adding protein to your meal, you keep your body full longer. This is exactly what I need when I have to get a heck of a lot of studying done and I don’t want to be hungry within the next hour and end up binging on the nearest bag of tortilla chips and guac.
Italian dressing, like Wish-Bone® Regular Italian Dressing, is my go-to dressing on any type of salad. My favorite part about it is that there is no high fructose corn syrup, which I have been really trying to cut back on recently.
