You’re a blogger and want to consistently post blog posts at least three times per week.
However, it’s the Sunday night before you want to have a post go live on Monday and you still have yet to get anything in writing. Needless to say, now is the worst time for writer’s block to kick it. So how do you go about trying to brainstorm blog post ideas and create awesome content when you feel crunched for time? I know that some people work better under a strict time constraint, but for me, I stress out even more and end up not being able to think about anything I need to get done.
I have come across several times when I have not planned out or written content in advance, but luckily I have an ongoing list of blog post ideas to help me when I can’t think of anything to write about. There are several ways I brainstorm blog post topics and I believe my method will help you too during crunch time.
1. Utilize life experiences
One of the reasons I started this blog was to ultimately help others, and how do I do that? I write about my life experiences and what I learned from them. Giving advice to others who may be going through the same or similar life experiences that I have been through makes all my hardships worth it.
It’s so much easier to be an expert on a certain topic when you have actually experienced it yourself. The writing is more authentic and it’s also much easier to write content in a pinch when it comes from the heart and you truly are passionate and know what you are talking about. This is one of the main reasons I love writing college-related posts. Yeah, it doesn’t appeal to everyone, but it is something that I know and I love helping other college girls through the struggles that I have or am going through.
2. Answer a question you want to know more about
If you have time for a little research, finding the answer to something you have been wondering about is a great way to share information with others. You are never an expert on everything, so if there is something that you would love your audience to know, gather the information and share it with with them! I love learning about new topics and when I think my new-found knowledge would be beneficial to my readers, I have to share it!
One of my favorites to write about what this post on which healthy foods were actually making you fat!
3. Google Trends
Google Trends is awesome in that you can easily check what the most popular searches are at a certain time. This can come in handy on several levels. First, it helps you come up with different content topics based on what you general topic you search for. Second, when you create content that is timely and widely searched, you increase your chances of people finding your blog.
4. HubSpot’s Blog Topic Generator
If you have a general idea of something you want to write about, you can enter one to three nouns into the generator and this website will spit out several blog post titles. If you don’t like any of the ideas the website gives you, you can refresh and see more topics. Sometimes I haven’t like any of the ideas the website gave me, but when I combined a couple topics, it worked out pretty well! Even if you can’t find a specific title to go with, the least you can do is gather more ideas.
5. Build off old blog posts
Creating a blog post series can be one of the easiest ways to come up with content. Once you have a blog post published, you can utilize that to brainstorm new content. Were there any questions in your comments that could be answered with another blog post? Going back to look at your old posts is a wonderful mode of inspiration, because you’re essentially inspiring yourself. Creating a series on a certain topic will not only help you come up with something to write about–traffic will be brought back to older posts whenever you create a new post in the series (just remember to link back to the old posts!)
