This season just makes me so happy for so many different reasons. The changing of leaves makes everything so bright and colorful. Bundling up with scarves and blankets around campfires is so relaxing. However, nothing beats the quality time that I get to spend with my family during this time.
The past three years of college, I have lived at home during the holidays. However since I am co-oping four hours away from home, having the opportunity to visit with my family is so much more special this year.
Decorating with my mom is and has always been one of my favorite fall pastimes. Because I am going to school for engineering, using my creativity is something that I rarely get to utilize. Decorating the house allows me to think outside the box, which is so much fun!
Having bonding time with my mom while cooking homemade applesauce and baking apple crisp falls at the top of my list of favorites. This has been one of my favorite activities since I was a little girl, and I could not imagine skipping it this year. Besides…how could I ever pass up apple crisp?!
Because everyone is usually surrounding the table during family gatherings, a fall centerpiece for the holidays is essential to make the room look festive. With my student budget, I knew I did not want to spend too much on items to create my centerpiece and I was pleased that I could find all the necessities at my local Wal-Mart instead of going to a high-price craft store.
What fall decor is complete without candy corn?! None.
How to create this awesome (and easy) fall centerpiece:
- Fill wine glasses halfway with candy corn
- Place a tea light in the center of candy corn
- Spread the tree branches out and separate the leaves. This will allow you to use less branches, but will make the centerpiece look fuller.
- Cut grass from stem. The grass that I purchased was connected to a wire stem, so I simply cut the grass from the stem in order to sporadically place them around the centerpiece
- On the table, arrange the leaves and grass around the wine glasses (I interlaced some through the stems). You really can’t mess this part up.
- Place pumpkins around setting I bought these adorable little Tiger-striped pumpkins to adorn the centerpiece and add a little extra.
What I love about this centerpiece is that it is so easy to create. You can really make this is about ten minutes–a perfect last minute touch before friends and family arrive! With the holidays right around the corner, I can't wait to spend time with my family and bond around the kitchen table Click To Tweet
Although I am technically visiting when I go home for the little while during the holidays, I am never really treated like a guest. I usually get tricked into cleaning the house or doing something else to prep for the rest of the family to arrive.
One of my dad’s pet peeves is dirty windows and mirrors, therefore it is a necessity for these to be spotless, especially where my smudge their noses while “guarding” the house. Whenever I am the one deemed to clean the house, I always make sure to use Windex® Original Glass Cleaner because I can just clean the surfaces once and it will be streak-free and spotless. This is also beneficial because my dad won’t make me go back and do it again (:
You can purchase this, along with Windex® Original Glass Wipes, Scrubbing Bubbles® Toilet Cleaning Gel, and Scrubbing Bubbles® Disinfectant Bathroom Cleaner at your local Wal-Mart. When you shop at Wal-Mart, you will also receive $5 off on holiday pictures with purchase of these cleaning products.
