There are moments in all of our lives when we feel this way.
It can also kill any project we have going on.
Knowing how to get stuff done even when you are completely unmotivated is a skill that we all tend to lack.
I bet you have a lot of crap on your to-do list, right? And if you are anything like me, the more items that get tacked on my to-do list, the less motivated you become to accomplish anything. I used to be the absolute worst when it came to being self-motivated when I wasn’t feeling it whatsoever.
1. Limit your to-do list
As you may be well aware, I am a fanatic when it comes to to-do lists. Having everything written down in front of me keeps me sane because I know what I have to get done. However, we can also get into a rut and feel completely unmotivated when we have too much on our plate.
Confession: there have been several blog posts that I wanted to publish, but I would have so much going on that I just skipped writing that post
When your hundreds of to-do lists get too long, go through them and analyze what the most important tasks are and create a short, 3-5 task list. When we have less to get done in a day, we feel less overwhelmed and are more likely so get the important stuff done!

2. Keep your end goal in mind
In the midst of tedious, long projects it can sometimes be challenging to want to continue when we feel as if there is no end in sight. Not being able to imagine the end result makes it so much harder to complete the seemingly unimportant tasks.
Although it may seem like you are never going finish, keep thinking about your end goal or result. When we keep reminding ourselves what we are working toward, it becomes so much easier to complete the smaller tasks in order to reach the final success
3. Take breaks
Please tell me I’m not the only one who gets distracted way too easily when I know I am supposed to be productive.
Our brains do not stay focused when we try to work them all day. Actually, this has a reverse effect. If we don’t give our brains a break from thinking about whatever task we are currently working on, we won’t be able to produce our best work because we are worn out.
When you are feeling severely unmotivated, allot a certain amount of time that you will work, then give yourself a break. I always seem to work better when I know I am working for a couple minutes of relaxation (please tell me I’m not alone here either)
Tip: When you have to get sh*t done (but really really don’t want to), work for 45 without any distractions, then take a 15 minute break.
4. Inspire yourself
Being self- motivated is one of the most important factors when it comes to getting everything done. However, there are times when we just just don’t have it in us to push ourselves along (and that’s okay!).
I love reading inspiring/ motivational quotes because they help me get back into the groove of hustling, whether it be working out or pushing forward during a challenging time on my blog. I am one of those people who loves to snack on smaller meals regularly throughout the day, instead of eating 3 large meals. One of the latest, most convenient snacks that I have found are the goodnessknows® snack squares. The three varieties (goodnessknows® Cranberry, Almond, Dark Chocolate, goodnessknows® Apple, Almond & Peanut, Dark Chocolate, goodnessknows® Peach & Cherry, Almond, Dark Chocolate) are so awesome and help me achieve “goodness to greatness.”
Because of this, placing inspirational quotes on my food ensures that I will be more inclined to work harder toward my end goals. It also reminds me of being a little girl when my mom would write cute little notes and put them in my lunchbox, but that’s beside the point (:
All you have to do to inspire yourself is:
- Google motivational/ inspirational quotes
- Cut a post-it note in half (we will only use the sticky side)
- Write your fabulous quote on your goodnessknows® snack squares
- Get your butt moving and GET STUFF DONE
You can also conveniently get these snack squares are your local Wal-Mart in the aisles leading up to the cash registers. You can also use this $0.50 off coupon when you hit up Wal-Mart for your snacks!
5. Stay positive
When we are unmotivated, it can be so easy to be negative about the situation.
Wake up, people! Being negative and pessimistic will only make you want to do the work even less.
Although there are shortcomings in everyone’s life, there is so much more to be positive about. When we also surround ourselves with negative people, we are easily brought down to their level. Misery loves company, but why would we want to share our company with misery?
