When was the last time you Googled “how to push yourself forward even when you’re unmotivated?” Or better yet, “how to get stuff done when you feel unmotivated?” Yeah, that’s where I’m at right now, as I type up this blog post. I feel ya, girl.
This past weekend I had to attended a seminar for a credit this semester. It only lasts one weekend: Friday from 5-10 pm and Saturday from 8 am to 6 pm. No big deal, right? Until I woke up on Sunday morning feeling so drained and exhausted that my stomach was not giving me a pleasant time. I just wanted to lay in bed and binge watch Netflix all day long with some Coke Zero to soothe my poor little tummy.
I’m coming at you on this wonderful morning not because I want your pity for not getting a rest day after my first week of the semester. I want to share this post because I want you to know that you can keep going, because you do have it in you. So instead of wallowing all day thinking about how down I felt (which did happen for about an hour, I’ll confess) I implemented some techniques to help me feel motivated and find that fight in me to tackle me to do list!

When I started feeling down this weekend, the first thing I did was find a meditation podcast and listen to an episode. I’ll admit that I used to never find benefit to meditating. But that was because I didn’t find what worked for me. No matter how hard I try, I cannot turn my brain off. However, I find meditation to be so much easier to do and more beneficial when I am listening to someone. When I have someone guide me through breathing exercises, I am so much more able to shut my mind off from the other crap.
As an introvert, spending time with people for too long can really take a toll on my body. Because I know this about myself, I am able to separate myself from a situation and take some mental health time. Knowing your body and what you need is so important.
Listen to your fave podcasts
When I was done meditating, I turned on a podcast to get me amped up for the tasks that needed done. Whenever I have a lot to tackle, I love to listen to podcasts like Being Boss, All Up in Your Lady Business, or The Skinny Confidential. Because these ladies are serious #bosses, listening to how they accomplish all their tasks in a day really lights a fire under my ass.
Look at your list of goals
A huge goal of mine for this year is to be consistent with blogging. I know that I’m also the type of person that if I don’t do something that needs to be done one day, it just snowballs out of control. So, in order to stay commited to myself, I got up and started working.
Think of all the deadlines you have in place for school, work, or personal stuff. If you don’t work on it today, when will you? Chances are, you’re a busy hustler who has a lot on her plate and every second counts. If you really want to accomplish something you will make it happen. If you really want something, you will MAKE IT HAPPEN. Click To Tweet
Turn up the tunes
Ugh, the absolute worst thing you can do for yourself is to listen to sad music that matches your mood. Pump up some uplifting tunes to lift your spirits. There are so many playlists on Pandora and Spotify that you’re bound to find something that you enjoy!
Happy Monday, friends! What tips do you have for how to push yourself forward even when you’re unmotivated? Is there anything else you’re struggling with?
