First, I must start off with the most cliche line: Where did June go?!? This summer can just slow down for a hot sec so I can enjoy it a little more! June was such an awesome month and I’m sad to see it go, but am oh so excited to share these June 2016 drugstore buys with you. My wallet took a bit of a hit last month, but hopefully it will help you guys determine what products might or might not work for you.
I picked these three products up about a day after I tried the new Wet n Wild gel polish (which I was highly unimpressed with). The three polishes are sold separately, but I figured if I really wanted to see how it worked on my nails I should probably try everything together. I am pretty impressed with this stuff! I especially love the base coat because it is sticky, so it will help the polish adhere to your nail better. Which means, longer manicure! The polish was pretty thick, so you only need one coat, which is awesome too.
The verdict: Love it. This polish lasted about 3-4 days before chipping, which is a heck of a lot better than regular polishes that chip the same or next day.
I am so so sad about this mascara. The first time I applied it I am pretty sure my eyes glazed over and were locked into staring at the effect. This added SO much length and did wonders for my eyes! So what went wrong? Well, as I stated in this post, I only ever use a certain mascara on my bottom lashes and will use others on the top. Although I only used this mascara on the top lashes, it still gave me raccoon eyes! I gave this mascara a second shot with some extra primer and powder around my eyes, but it still failed me. ):
The verdict: Leave it. If you have skin anywhere remotely close to combination/ oily I would avoid this like the plague.
I really only bought this mascara to coat the Lash Princess one to see if it would prevent smudging. I loved the effect it created, but don’t wear it often as I despise the amount of work it takes to get off waterproof mascara.
The verdict: It depends. If you are looking for an everyday mascara, there are better ones out there. But this is a good waterproof option as a good price.
Since every blogger and their mother had been talking about their love for this brow tint, I decided to hop on the bandwagon. I’ve also heard it is a dupe for the Benefit Gimme Brow, which was another reason to test it out. I really love the consistency, but the light was too light and the dark was too dark. I hope they come out with more shades soon!
The verdict: Leave it. I have another option if you keep reading (:
This is a product that I regret buying because I just don’t reach for it like I thought I would. It corrects redness slightly, but since it’s green, I still need to go over it with concealer. Since my concealer and bb cream masks my breakouts and redness on their own, I really don’t see the point in using this colour corrector.
The verdict: Leave it. With a good concealer or foundation, you’ll be able to do everything in one step with less products.
I think Revlon spent ten times more time on advertising than they did developing this mascara (and all the other mascaras they just released. See my opinion in this post on another Revlon mascara). The first day using this I was extremely impressed as it really did give me both volume and length. Well, come the second and third trial days all I got was a clumpy mess. As you can see, this wand doesn’t have a lot of bristles, so it’s really easy for product to just want to cake on your lashes and not spread out.
The verdict: Leave it. Honestly, don’t even waste your time.
I will admit, I didn’t use this setting spray to actually set my makeup. I originally purchased this to spray on my eye shadow brush to make my eye shadow pop some more. I will dab my brush into my eye shadow and then spritz a little spray on top before applying it to my eyes. I was really impressed by how much more vibrant my metallic shades were!
The verdict: Love it. This is great for setting and for your eye shadow purposes!
And here is the brow tint that I think you should test out. The brush is even smaller than the Make Me Brow, so it will be easier to define the shape you want on your brows. The main reason I love this is because of the variety of shades they offer. And because it’s a gel, I just need this one product to tint my brows and keep them in place.
The verdict: Love it. The perfect two-in-one.
I couldn’t tell you what drove me to pick up this huge tube of goodness, but I am so glad I did. I hadn’t seen any reviews on this mascara, so I figured why not try it? This mascara not only gave me both length and volume (as it claims), but it also held up during an insanely hot and sweaty weekend at the lake. No raccoon eyes appeared that day! When I apply this, I first use the length side and add a coat to each eye, then go back and do as many coats of the volume as I deem necessary.
The verdict: Love it. This mascara really does do as it claims.
I’m so sick of paying a crap ton of money for hairsprays, which is why I picked this guy up. I love several other products from the NYM line and hoped this would be just as good. After using this on my curled hair for a week, I noticed that it doesn’t have a strong enough hold to keep my curls in. With my fine hair, I need something that will have a strong hold, but won’t weigh my hair down. I will continue to use this spray when I pull my hair up, but not when it’s down.
The verdict: Leave it. If you are wanting a volumizing hair spray that will hold your hair all day, this isn’t for you.
This self tanner is now one of my favorites. After one use, I had a nice color, but it wasn’t too dark that it would leave me with streaks. When the color starts to wear off, it goes evenly, as opposed to being splotchy with other tanners. When it first came out of the bottle, the orange-brown color kind of scared me but once dry, the tan looked so natural!
The verdict: Love it. This has great staying power and leaves a natural glow.
Phew. That was a decent amount of products that I tried from the drugstore this month! I also have a post dedicated to the foundations I tried too (you can find that here). The drugstore has so many awesome products for the price and I think I found some long-term favorites from this past month (:
What are your thoughts on some of the drugstore makeup you have been using?
