Building a healthy skin foundation is something I am constantly working toward. Really, I think everyone should be working toward this. While makeup is out there to cover up an imperfections, why wouldn’t you want a nice, healthy surface to work with? I love makeup and think it’s such a fun way to express myself, but nothing makes me feel more confident than being able to step out of the house without makeup and still look like the same person that wears makeup.
Forming a routine
I used to be someone who simply used makeup removing wipes to take off my makeup and that was it. I didn’t fully understand the importance of the varieties of products I could choose from. And personally, I feel that when you aren’t knowledgable about what is out there, you’re less inclined to try something new for your skin.
Once I really started breaking out in college I knew it was time for a change. I finally found a routine that worked for me at the time. Although I find insane joy in popping pimples (yeah, I know it’s bad), it was so exciting to see my face start to clear up!
My skincare routine changes quite often due to the amount of products I test out but since I am currently loving the ones I am sing right now, I thought I would share it with you!
My skin type
Before we continue, I want to talk about my skin a little so you know if these products might work out for you too. I have combination/oily skin that is pretty susceptible to breakouts. I can’t simply use products that are for sensitive skin, but don’t have acne medication in them. Also, because my skin is pretty oily, I don’t use any lotions that are “intense hydration” because too much moisture will also spark breakouts.
First, I start off by removing my makeup with the Simple Cleansing Oil. I like to take my makeup off first, because I don’t want it on when I use my FOREO. Before I used this, I was actually nervous because it is an “oil” and I didn’t know how that would affect my skin. Because this is the first step of cleansing, I wasn’t to worried since I would be using another cleanser to clean my face, which would clean off any oily residue. It’s also meant for sensitive skin types, so that also eased my worries. I just drop a little bit into my dry hands and start rubbing it all over my face. Then, once my face is fully coated with the oil, I scrub off with warm water.
Next, I wash my face with the OXY face wash combined with my FOREO Luna 2 for Combination Skin. I’ve talked about the OXY line a couple times before (you can see those posts here and here). I wipe a light layer of the face wash all over my face and then go over it with my Luna 2. Then, I will typically start at my chin and work my way up my face. I absolutely love that it has silicone bristles that vibrate, so it’s less abrasive on my face. One thing I wish was a little different are the amount of bristles at the tip to make it easier to get around my nose. It took a little maneuvering, but I finally figured it out so it’s not a deal breaker. To clean, I simply use antibacterial soap to clean off my Luna 2 for combo skin. Because it has silicone bristles, you also don’t need to change brush heads.
I am pretty lazy at night when it comes to getting ready for bed, so I love that I can just hold the Luna 2 to my face and it does the rest of the work. You can alter the vibration strength too depending on what you want. Andddd best of all–the battery lasts close to 7 months! Not having to worry about whether or not the Luna 2 is charged is so wonderful. On the other side of the Luna 2, there is an anti-aging side that helps your products absorb into your skin better. There are four different colors of the Luna 2 that pair with a certain skin type–normal, sensitive, oily, and combination.
After washing my face, I like to remove the last bit of eye makeup that might still be residing on my face. I have been loving the Simple eye makeup remover because it’s gentle on my eyes, yet still removes makeup with ease.
I also wrote about this toner in a previous blog post (see more here), but it has become one of my staples at night. Toner is the final step I take to get any last bit of gunk off my face. And this has always proved necessary because without fail there always ends up being product on the cotton ball!
If you have any issues with residual marks on your face from acne, then I highly suggest you try this bad boy out. It helps heal freshly popped pimples as well as scars that have been around for a while. Since it’s a gel, I can also use it during the day and it doesn’t make my face look greasy.
Moisturizing is something I never want to forget with the types of products I use. I need something that is moisturizing, but won’t make my skin too oily or greasy. I really enjoy this lotion because it is lightweight, but still revitalizes my skin.
This is what I typically use each night to keep my skin looking and feeling healthy. If you have combination or oily skin, I would definitely recommend you check these products out! (:
