Hey heyyyyy summer! So, after we do a little party dance because the weather is actually nice and you have an excuse to stay up later at night, let’s talk some summer skincare tips. Because let’s be real, we gotta look beauty-ful when we take pics of all our fun adventures, right?! And if you’re anything like me, you get wayyy less sleep in the summer because of all the fun things going on. (That also prob has to do with FOMO a bit too…) Because I run on lots of lack of sleep, I find that I need to be more diligent when it comes to taking care of my skin.

Also, stay tuned to the very end, because I’m sharing how the HiMirror Plus is totally changing my skincare game!
Moisturize your body
I swear my skin seems to be drier in te summer than winter. Why? That’s because I think the Ohio humidity has my back in the moisturization department and tend to forget about lotion. Truth is, when you spend more time out in the sun, you need to add more moisture to compensate.
Switch to a lightweight face moisturizer
Whenever spring and summer strike, its a good idea to trade that heavy-duty moisturizer for a lighter one. When you have a heavy layer of lotion on your face, you’re more likely to clog your pores in the summer heat.
Okay, I’ll admit, on a normal day I’m soooo not the cold shower type. However after a long day outside, a cold shower is very well received. When taking a hot shower, you’re really just pulling all the excess moisture out of your body. Therefore taking a cool(ish) shower is so much better for your skin.
Not much of a cold shower type? Try rinsing your hair and body real quick with cold water prior to leaving the shower! The cold temp with lock in the moisture in your hair and help prevent excess frizz.
Yeah this always seems like a no-brainer, but I thought I should add it anyway! On a normal work day, I always go for my moisturizer that has SPF built in. However, when I know I’ll be out all day, I LOVE the myCHELLE tinted sunscreen! It gives just enough coverage to smooth out your complexion, but doesn’t leave you feeling gross when you get in the water or start to sweat. Guys, my mom swears by this lotion too!
Exfoliate and Body Scrubs
Wellll… what comes with dry skin? Dead skin. Let’s be real… that look is never on trend. I’m a huge fan of exfoliating because it always makes my skin feel so silky smooth. I love this DIY pre-shave scrub that is super affordable and the derma e microdermabrasion scrub!
Change your pillowcases at least 2 times per week
It’s summer, so there’s a good chance your bedroom isn’t going to be Arctic-cold throughout every night. If you’re anything like me, you are a personal heater and sweat constantly on a warm night. This just leaves bacteria chillin’ in your sheets and will be waiting to attack the next time you hop into bed.
Eat hydrating foods
Soooo does this give me the excuse to eat all the watermelon?! Especially since it contains about 92% water!! Other foods that have a high water content are strawberries, cantaloupe, cucumber, celery, green peppers, and spinach. As someone who struggles with getting myself to drink enough water throughout the day, eating foods with tons of water is a great option.
Get yo’ mask on!
While this girl loves her facials, I also love a good DIY and budget-friendly alternative. Masks are awesome for giving your skin extra attention on whatever skin issue you may be having. Because I have combination skin, I can go from an oily mess to dry-ness galore within a couple days. It’s never fun, but that’s why I love masks–they help get my skin back on track super quick! Whenever I want to keep track of my skin’s health, I look to my HiMirror Plus to see how my skin has improved/gotten worse to analyze how I can fix it.
For oily days: For me, excess oil brings breakouts. So I typically grab clay or mud masks to give my skin a good deep clean. The Formula 10.0.6 Deep Down Detox and Tuel Detox Clay masks are bomb. Not kidding, they are serious vacuums for clogged pores.
Opt for lightweight foundation
Heat + humidity + heavy foundation = bad news for sensitive skin. Just like the thick moisturizer, a thicker foundation will likely clog pores by the end of the day. In the summer, I love using bb creams (like my fave summer bb creams in this post) or a powder foundation like Bare Minerals.
Don’t skip cleaning your face (or body)
Yep, I’m lookin’ at all you lazy girls out there. We’ve all done it, but skipping washing your face at night is a huge no-no. Even if you haven’t put on any makeup, you still need to clean off all the toxins that came in contact with your skin. Face cleansing wipes are my fave and I always have them in my bathroom for nights when I just want to crash in bed. And don’t think your body is any exception! If you’re a heavy sweater, that bacteria just builds up and breeds on you…and bacne is never cute…
Pay attention to your skin
One thing that’s really cool about the HiMirror Plus is it takes a picture and analyzes your skin every time you sign in. Then, as the days roll by, you can determine what’s working and what’s not. There’s nothing worse than implementing a new skincare routine and not remembering what your skin looked like before! The HiMirror is capable of assessing your skin’s condition including wrinkles, fine lines, complexion, dark circles, dark spots, red spots, and pores so that you can take action to improve your skin’s look and feel.
Setting up the HiMirror Plus was a little interesting though. The user manual stated that installation was only 5 minutes…but that wasn’t the case for me. Because the mirror is not touch screen, all actions are performed using hand gestures. Although I watched all the setup vids, it took countless power cyclings, and about a day for the mirror to recognize my “swipe” and “push” gestures.
