Oh the good old comfort zone. How we would all love to stay here just a little while longer… But guess what? Staying put is not it not helping you. Occasionally, you need to get out of your comfort zone and try new things!
I’m typically one to try new things when I have the chance. However, I steer clear of anything that I’m bad at (cough cough: golf). C is a huge golf junkie and has been at it for years so it would be cool to have something like this be a common interest. However, a couple years ago for my birthday he bought a set of golf clubs (how sweet?!) but alas, 3 years later and all those clubs seem to hit is the grass. You could practically call them shovels instead of clubs!
Butttt I’m not one to give up super easily, so I’m still here trying to pursue this golf thing. Everyone (who’s good at golf) always talks about how fun it is and I want in on that fun too! Because I really do think you need to get out of your comfort zone, I’m discussing some tips to help you!
Identify what you want to do + what it will accomplish
Well, friend, how can you go about jumping out of your safe spot if you don’t even have a clue what you want to accomplish?? Let’s pause here and write a little list of things you wanna do. It could be today, this month, this year, whenever. Just know what you want to do. Now, address the why. How will performing said goal benefit you? It’s so much easier to tackle a difficult goal when you have a reason for doing it. Especially when you’re out of your comfort zone.
Create a plan
Please, you didn’t think that but declaring your goal it would magically come true right? Idk about you, but when the going gets tough on something out of my comfort zone and I don’t have a plan I fall apart. Create a plan, a strategy, something to structure how you’re gonna get to where you want to go. Yeah you have this one huge goal, but try to break it up into multiple little goals that inch you closer to the end. Whenever I see a small task it’s always a heck of a lot less daunting than the end goal.
Look the part
Everyone’s different, but personally if I look like a badass, I’m gonna act like a badass. Okay so maybe that same tactic doesn’t exactly work with golfing, but wearing awesome gear really gets me in the right mindset to work hard. I know some people work so efficiently at home in their pajamas all day and not showering until 3 pm. Personally, that doesn’t work for me because I need to stick with some kind of routine. Point being figure out what part you wanna play and act like it.
I’m totally in love with this golf outfit from Adidas Golf. While I’m a die-hard pink lover, I also have a major obsession with blue. (anyone else obsess over the Cerulean blue crayon color??) My favorite pieces in this outfit are without a doubt these rad shoes and the jacket. I talked all about them on Snapchat and Insta stories–so make sure you’re following along for all my latest adventures! The shoes…just look at ’em, wouldja just look at ’em? (if you know the reference we need to be friends ;)) And this jacket is super light and the ribbing adds some cool texture.
I am never short on questions, guys–I’m so inquisitive when it comes to topics I don’t know much about. I used to be embarrassed by all my questions until a former boss told be to never stop asking questions because it shows you are interested and care about the topic. So there, if you needed an excuse to ask more questions, you got one! 🙂 How else are you going to achieve this major goal you just created?!
Don’t take yourself too seriously
Something that I’m workin’ on everyday y’all.
A sense of humor never hurt nobody! But for real, not everything is going to be sunshine and rainbows when you’re embarking the unknown. When something doesn’t go exactly as you had anticipated take a step back and let it humor you. Always take the time to laugh and don’t get so worked up about everything being perfect.
So you’re telling me that every time I jam my club into the ground to laugh it off? Why yes, yes I am 🙂 And about two seconds after taking this picture I busted up laughing because trying to seriously read my put was way too funny.
If you read my post about self-love then you know I’m all about mindset right now. Basically, whatever you put out into the universe that’s what you’ll receive back. So if you’re super pessimistic about something not going right, well then…that’s what you’re gonna get. But, girlfriend, if you’ve got this whole “I’m gonna kick ass” mentality, then you’ll kick ass.
Know why? Because you actually believe in yourself and your body will work harder because it knows you really truly deeply want this. So do yourself a solid and home think positively.
Take baby steps + learn from your mistakes
When it comes to a skill, you’re never gonna be a pro right off the back.
Yep, I know that feeling.
But one thing that’s so important is to take baby steps and practice. Then practice more and some more. This whole golf thing is one huge learning curve that I’m trying to climb. While I haven’t taken professional lessons (yet), I do receive a little feedback from C here and there. And as hard as it is to stop performing my rookie swings, I try my best to learn from my mistakes and take any advice I can get.
And ultimately, despite whatever roadblocks you may encounter, push yourself. You clearly set the goal for a reason, so work for it, girl!
I’m so excited to be working with Adidas Golf this summer to show you guys their fun + adorable women’s line! I’ll be going to a couple lessons with a pro and getting out on the course with C and my aunt and uncle. If you guys have any golfing Qs you want me to either ask or share in a post for you lemme know! I’m def gonna share my progress throughout the summer.
